Facial implants are commonly used to provide permanent refinement of the chin bone. An alternative to temporary injectable fillers, these implants provide a permanent solution to improving balance and harmony of the face. As a top cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Farhood is an expert in facial implant procedures.
Dr. Farhood uses a soft silicone material for his chin. The implants are placed right over the bone, underneath the muscles so that they are as stable as possible. The implants are designed to be long-lasting and do not need to be changed. If desired, however, the implants can easily be removed. Dr. Farhood often sculpts the implants to match them to your own anatomy and correct for any pre-operative asymmetries.
Chin Augmentation
Chin Implant With other procedures
Often times patients opt to undergo chin implant surgery in combination with cosmetic nasal surgery (rhinoplasty), to improve the overall balance of the face. A small, recessive chin can make the nose look larger than it actually is. Strengthening a weak chin also helps to balance to the face and can improve the appearance of the neck.
Dr. Farhood’s chin augmentation surgery, or chin implant surgery, can also be performed in conjunction with other facial procedures, such as neck liposuction, facelift, or a deep neck lift.
The Procedure
Implant surgery takes approximately one hour to complete and is done under a general anesthetic or intravenous sedation anesthesia. Dr. Farhood places the chin implant in a pocket just above the bone so that they are as secure and stable as possible. The implants are placed through small incisions in the mouth or chin. When necessary, Dr. Farhood will carve and sculpt chin implants to ensure they fit with and are compatible to each patient’s individual anatomy.
Recovery Time After Chin Implants
After chin augmentation, mild bruising, swelling, and tenderness in the treated area are normal and typically subside within the first week. Most patients feel comfortable returning to work after five to seven days, though residual swelling may take a few weeks to fully resolve. Light activities, such as walking, can be resumed within a few days, while more moderate exercise is typically safe after five days. Strenuous activities, including heavy lifting and high-intensity workouts, should be avoided for seven to ten days to allow proper healing. Following post-operative instructions, including keeping your head elevated and avoiding pressure on the chin, will help ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results.
